The ancient Chinese people led their life in line with the rotation of seasons, as documented in Vast Records of the Annual Seasons (Suishi Guangji) by Chen Yuanjing (dates unknown) during the reign of Emperor Lizong (r. 1224-1264).

The author introduces monthly ordinances, phenology, flowering season, as well as agricultural, costume, food and drinks, poetry and merry-making in diverse seasons of the ancient Chinese people. In addition, illustrations and guqin songs are also included to give a panoramic view of the culture of the Chinese solar terms which has been part of people’s life for thousands of years.
