An encounter between a prisoner behind bars and a girl without protection from her family in the city of ruins was the catalyst that turned around both of their destinies. By supporting, helping, and influencing each other is what carried them through unparalleled trials, helping them to get through one crisis after another—such as lack of food, being attacked by dogs in the night, and getting lost in the rain—during which, the girl grew stronger and tougher, and the man, whose one-time slip up is what made him into a robber, was touched by the girl’s kindness and integrity. In the end, when all were able to return home, the girl was finally reunited with her parents under the osmanthus tree, as the accompanying melody of a trumpet, one of which had been there for her for many days, vibrantly resounded above the city of ruins.
