From the perspective of urban planning, this book tells the story of protectively reusing industrial heritage of Beijing during its urban construction. The first half, titled “A Song of Ice and Fire”, introduces the transformation of the site of Shougang Group from an old iron and steel plant into a distinctive multi-functional cultural park, as well as the office of Beijing 2022 and one of the venues for the Winter Olympics. With the second half focusing on the 751 industrial park, which is transformed from an industrial heritage into a cultural and creative gathering place in eastern Beijing, this book tells the interactive development between industrial heritage protection and urban construction.
