Su Shi (Su Dongpo, 1037–1101) was lauded to be China's top of the top scholar. He left us with an unprecedented collection of profound cultural heritage, together with numerous anecdotes that have earned him the name of a maverick. However, beyond these legendary stories, what kind of person was he in real life? Wang Shuizhao, Senior Professor of Fudan University who is dedicated to the research of Chinese literature in Song Dynasty (960 – 1279), gives a panoramic review of the character, literature works, calligraphy and paintings, as well as philosophic thoughts of Su Dongpo.
