Wang Hongzhi, a distinguished scholar of Chinese translation and literature, holds a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. He is an Emeritus Chair Professor and Research Professor at the Department of Translation, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Director of the CUHK’s Center for Translation Studies, Adjunct Professor and PhD Supervisor at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Fudan University, Honorary Director of Institute of Literary Studies, Fudan University, Distinguished Professor hired by Hunan University of Science and Technology through the Xiangjiang Scholar Program, and Honorary Director of the Institute of Translation History and Cross-Cultural Studies, Hunan University of Science and Technology. Professor Wang’s expertise lies in the history of translation in China and modern Chinese literature, with a specific focus on the period spanning the 18th to the 20th centuries. His prolific contributions to the field are evident in his numerous publications, including acclaimed monographs such as Reinterpreting Faithfulness, Expressiveness and Elegance: Translation in China in the Twentieth Century, Between Translation and Literature, Translation and Modern China, Between Literature and Politics, Lu Xun and the League of Left-Wing Writers, and Politics and Literature in Shanghai: The Chinese League of Left-wing Writers 1930-1936. His editorship has also brought depth and influence to collections like Translation and Creation: A Study of Novel Translation in Modern China, Sinologists as Translators in the 17th-19th Centuries, Crossing Borders: Sinology in Translation Studies, and Translation and Modernization in East Asia in the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries.
