Chen Chuanxi is a professor and advisor of doctoral candidates at the School of Arts, Renmin University of China, member of the China Artists Association, and guest professor at the China Academy of Art. He researched at the University of Kansas. In 1986, he went to the US to study traditional Chinese paintings in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911) and investigated the relics of ancient Chinese arts collected in the US, Japan, and the UK. Back to China, he began to study the history of art and literature, having over 500 papers and 36 monographs published, including Study on Theories of Painting in Six Dynasties (220–589).
