Professor Zhou Shangyi teaches at the Department of Geographic Sciences of Beijing Normal University. She is also the Director of the University’s Institute of Urban and Regional Planning and Director of the Cultural Geography Committee of the Geographic Society of China. She also acts as the executive member of the China Toponymy Society, member of the China Society of Territorial Economists, the executive member of the Beijing Geographic Society, member of the Cultural Geography Committee of the International Geographical Union, the executive member of the Asian Cultural Landscape Association, and the executive member of the Chinese Branch of the Regional Science Association. She has also been committed to the field of cultural geography. She has edited and got published a number of textbooks on cultural geography and undertaken a number of national and international projects.  She has received multiple teaching awards including the Beijing Municipal Excellence Course for her course of human geography, as well as the Beijing Master Teacher Award.
