Yang Zhenzhong (1937–) was born in Shanghai, with his ancestral home in Wuxi, Jiangsu. A graduate from the department of Chinese language of Shanghai Normal University, he has been engaged in primary and secondary school Chinese teaching and the popularization of classical Chinese reading. Published in the 1980s, his Aid for Middle School Students to Read Classical Chinese has distributed 2.2 million copies so far, benefiting several generations of Chinese people. In addition, he has published several dozens of books including the Aid for Senior High School Students to Read Classical Chinese (New Edition), Aid for Junior High School Students to Read Classical Chinese (New Edition), An Enlightening Book on Classical Chinese and the “Eighteen Writing Skills” series.
